Since 2000, Bilal Academy (formerly Bilal Sunday School) has been a cornerstone of Islamic education and community development in the Jersey Shore area. As the educational arm of Masjid Bilal, we are dedicated to nurturing a new generation of confident, knowledgeable, and principled Muslim leaders.

The Quranic Verse inspires our name and our mission: “O my Lord! Advance me in knowledge.” (20:114). We believe that education is a lifelong journey, and we are committed to providing the highest quality instruction, bridging your child’s success with a well-formed infrastructure of knowledge and resources.

Our Programs

We offer a diverse range of programs designed to meet the needs of students at every stage of their development:

Sunday School & Leadership Program:

Our flagship program provides a comprehensive Islamic education for a diverse group of students. We focus on building a strong foundation in Islamic studies, Quranic recitation, and character development.

Youth Leadership Empowerment Program:

Designed for students aged 14 and older, this enriching workshop focuses on developing vital communication and leadership skills through practical experience. Graduates emerge as distinguished Muslim leaders and communicators, ready to make a difference with real-life, hands-on experience.

Teacher Training:

We offer comprehensive training programs designed to facilitate skill acquisition and the implementation of effective teaching methodologies for both novice and experienced educators. Our community of professional volunteer instructors provides personalized feedback and ongoing support.

Quran Memorization Program

Responding to community feedback, the Bilal Quran Memorization Program offers several sessions for different age groups. Our Qur’an Academy provides a wide range of classes, from basic to advanced, tailored to meet students’ needs

Group-based Memorization (Tilawah) for Children

A new program where students repeat verses after the imam until they are memorized. This method requires no prior Arabic literacy, making it accessible to all. The objective is to memorize at least one juz’ (or more) and prepare students for advanced classes. Requirements: At least 5 years old and able to focus for 60 minutes

Advanced Memorization (Hifz) for Children & Youth:

  • This level focuses on memorization, improving reading skills, and learning proper tajweed. Requirements: At least 6 years old and able to read words and sentences.

  • Memorization for Adults: Tailored for adults to memorize the Holy Qur’an according to their ability while improving their tajweed.

Summer Camp

Our Bilal Summer Camp is designed to help build Islamic self-esteem and self-worth in every child, guiding them towards a happy, healthy, and responsible Islamic lifestyle. We offer a unique curriculum where every action is done with mindfulness and intention, contributing to the enjoyment, development, and Islamic education of each camper

Campers engage in a variety of enriching activities, including:

  • Martial Arts: Teaching self-defense, respect, discipline, and the values of a strong Muslim.

  • Field Trips: Educational and fun outings like visits to the Popcorn Zoo, where children learn to group as Muslims and practice prayers in the open air.

  • Physical Activity: Age-appropriate exercises and games that build strength, coordination, and healthy habits, helping kids develop stronger muscles and bones, maintain a leaner body, and foster a better outlook on life

Goal

The goal is to provide the tools needed to foster good learning habits and set kids on a positive Islamic path that will serve them well in school and beyond
